Nigel Hunter

Nigel’s current sculptural work in clay and stone emanates from a continuing fascination with nature and its geometry and how aspects of those might transition into more abstract forms.

Inspired by a minimal aesthetic and Japanese philosophy the idea is to capture an essence with visual simplicity. Carving stone by hand is a physical, immersive and meditative process but he hopes the sculptures also capture the wonderful energy and movement so prevalent in the nature that surrounds us.

Since moving to East Sussex there its no doubt that the immediate environment of the South Downs and the sea have had an impact on his making.
